• Question: how do you come up with new inventions and ideas?

      My way is to:
      – read about different things that you find interesting
      – remember that what you learn in one context can often be applied in other situations
      – think about curious things when you’re quite tired, as this when I’ve found that most ideas arise

      Some ideas will be good and quite a lot will be dead ends. If you enjoy this sort of stuff, you can keep going until you get a good one (and even then still carry on).

      How do you know if an idea is good and how can you make it better? The answer is to talk about it with other people. A really interesting website that you can sign up to is http://marblar.com . It’s all about thinking up ideas for inventions that maybe haven’t found their “killer app” just yet.
